Feelings

Devotional from Pastor Tim

We were created for freedom, yet so often, we find ourselves living as prisoners, not necessarily to sin in the obvious sense, but to the pull of our own emotions.

Emotions are a beautiful gift from God. They allow us to experience life so that we can love deeply, grieve honestly, and rejoice fully. But they were never designed to lead us. In a culture that exalts feelings as truth, it’s easy, even for believers, to become captive to the roller coaster of emotion. But God invites us into something better. In Christ, we are free to feel without being led by what we feel. Our emotions no longer define us; His truth does.

Freedom isn’t about feeling good; it’s about believing what’s true. Faith anchors us in reality even when our emotions shout something else. In the garden, Adam and Eve had a choice: trust God or follow their feelings. Choosing emotion over truth led to bondage.

The gospel invites us back into freedom—not by denying how we feel, but by refusing to let our feelings define us. Emotions are real, but not always right. They can inform us, but they should not lead us. Truth leads us, and truth has a name: Jesus.

So when fear rises, when discouragement whispers lies about who you are, remember: you are not your emotions. You are a new creation in Christ, free to walk by faith. Let your feelings be reminders of what is true, not rulers of what is true. Feelings change, but the truth about you in Christ never will. You are forgiven, righteous, and secure. That’s real freedom.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7
