Devotional from Pastor Tim
Understanding the Bible starts with understanding the covenants. God’s character has never changed; He has always been just, holy, merciful, and kind. What has changed is the covenant through which He relates to His people.
In the old covenant, blessings were tied to human faithfulness. In the new covenant, blessing flows from Christ’s faithfulness. The shift isn’t about God becoming different; it’s about God fulfilling what was always in His heart.
Jesus said, “If you’ve seen Me, you’ve seen the Father.” He didn’t come to soften God’s attitude; He came to reveal what God has always been like. The cross didn’t make God gracious; it proved His grace has always been the plan.
Not everything in scripture is to you, though all of it is for you. When we confuse the covenants, we misread scripture and misunderstand God’s heart. But when we see the difference, clarity comes: you are not under law, but under grace—not striving to be accepted, but already made new.
You now live under a better covenant, built on better promises. You don’t have to stand in the shadows of what pointed forward. In Christ, you stand in the light of what has been fully accomplished.
“But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.” – Hebrews 8:6
