Do I have enough faith?

Have you ever wondered if you have enough faith?

We hear it all the time: You just need to have more faith. Struggling in your marriage? Have more faith. Waiting on God? Have more faith. Facing something you can’t control? Maybe you just need to believe a little harder.

But that can leave us asking, How do I do that? How do I get more faith? And what if I don’t have enough?

The Bible does say that without faith, it is impossible to please God. But what exactly is faith?

Faith is more than belief. Belief engages the mind, but faith engages the will. You can believe something is true without ever doing anything about it. Faith takes what you believe and places your weight on it.

Think about the chair you’re sitting in right now. You didn’t spend the morning studying the structural integrity of the chair before sitting down. You didn’t have to work up a certain level of confidence. You simply sat down and put your weight on it.

That’s faith. And notice this: the chair isn’t holding youup because your faith in the chair is incredibly strong. It’s holding you upbecause the chair is strong enough to hold you.

That changes everything.

We don’t worship faith. We worship the One our faith is in.

Faith isn’t something we need to accumulate, measure, orbecome impressive at. The issue isn’t whether you have enough faith. The issue is always the object of your faith. 

And this is where grace brings such freedom. Your relationship with God isn’t secured by how perfectly you trust Him. Jesus has already done what you could never do. Your sins are forgiven. You’ve been made righteous. You belong to Him, not because your faith has been flawless, but because His work is finished.

So when your confidence feels strong, trust Him. When your confidence feels weak, trust Him. When you have questions, trust Him. Even when you’re struggling to trust Him, you can bring that struggle to Him.

God is faithful, even when we are faithless.

You don’t need more faith. You simply need to keep placing the faith you have in the One who has already proven that He can be trusted.

And when you put your weight on Jesus, you’ll discover something beautiful: You can rest on His faithfulness.
