Devotional from Pastor Tim
Many Christians struggle with hearing from God. Questions like, “How do I know if He’s speaking to me?” or “What am I supposed to look for?” can leave us feeling uncertain, as if God is communicating in mysterious ways that we have to figure out.
But God is not hiding His voice from you.
People often say, “God works in mysterious ways,” yet Scripture never says God’s communication is mysterious. In fact, God has made Himself known clearly and fully through Jesus. Hebrews says God has spoken finally through His Son. Jesus is the living Word, and the written Word points us directly to Him.
That means we don’t have to chase signs, search for hidden meanings, or wonder if we’re missing something. Jesus even warned against constantly looking for signs. Instead, we can rest in what God has already spoken.
He loves you. He accepts you. In Christ, you are completely forgiven, made righteous, and made brand new. You are not living under the burden of law and performance, but in the new way of grace through the Spirit. And he is always in you and with you!
Yes, the Holy Spirit speaks, and He always points us back to Jesus and the truth of the gospel. Jesus said, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you” (John 14:26). The Spirit reminds us of what is already true because of Christ.
So when you want to hear from God, you can be confident that He speaks…through His Word, by His Spirit, and always about Jesus. God speaks, and His message to you is steady, clear, and full of grace and life.
God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son. Hebrews 1:1-2
