Devotional from Pastor Tim
When we think about heaven, it’s easy to imagine rewards in terms of performance. Bigger crowns, greater honor, or a better place because of what we accomplished on earth. But that kind of thinking subtly pulls us back into a system of earning, something the gospel has already freed us from.
Grace doesn’t stop at salvation. It defines our entire relationship with God, now and forever.
The Bible does use beautiful imagery like crowns, treasure, and heavenly dwellings. But these pictures are not about believers competing for a better eternity. They are meant to show the richness and value of what God has given us in Christ.
The reward of heaven is not a collection of things; it is a person.
Jesus is the reward.
The incredible truth is that the moment you believed, you received Him. You were given the Spirit of God as a foretaste of what is to come. Heaven is not about finally earning more from God; it is about fully experiencing the One you already belong to and all you possess in Christ.
That means there won’t be levels of worth or value among believers in eternity. Billy Graham will not have more of Jesus than you. The Apostle Paul will not enjoy more favor than you. We will all stand complete in Him because grace has always been the same for every believer—undeserved, unearned, and freely given.
Your future is not based on your performance, but on His promise. So today, you don’t have to wait to enjoy heaven’s reward. You can know Him now, walk with Him now, and rest in Him now.
“Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.” Psalm 73:25
