Devotional from Pastor Tim Chalas
We all like to be in control, don’t we? If the option is in control or out of control, I'll take the former. Maybe you're wired the same way.
Jesus said, "You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
Here's one of those freeing truths: we were never created to be in control.
Think about how much energy we spend trying to manage life. We try to control our circumstances, other people, our emotions, and our future. At first, it feels wise. It even feels responsible. But eventually, it's exhausting because we were never meant to carry that weight.
The truth is, control has always been an illusion. We were never the ones holding everything together.
The good news is that there is a God who loves you, and He's the One who's in charge. But here's what's amazing—He's not controlling. He doesn't force you or manipulate you. He invites you to trust Him. He invites you to rest in the One who is faithful no matter what life brings.
Does that mean there isn't risk? Of course not. Life is full of uncertainty. But trying to control everything doesn't remove the risk, it only steals your peace.
Your security isn't found in your ability to manage life. It's found in Christ. Because you belong to Him, because you're loved by Him, and because He holds you securely, you can loosen your grip on the things you were never meant to hold so tightly.
Letting go isn't giving up. It's faith. It's simply agreeing that God is God and you are His beloved child.
As you trust Him instead of trying harder, you'll discover something beautiful: the freedom that comes from the certainty of His love in the uncertainty of this world.
A Prayer for This Week
Lord Jesus, thank You that You are my peace and security. I confess that control often feels safer than trust, but it leaves me tired. Remind me that I am held by You. Teach me to act in wisdom, to trust You with outcomes, and rest in the freedom of Your faithful love. Amen.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6
