Masking Strength

Dependence

Devotional from Pastor Tim

The first lie whispered in Eden was that humanity could be like God. Ever since, we have been tempted to put on masks of strength, pretending we have it all together. We hide our weakness, fearing it makes us unworthy. We live in a world that celebrates self-sufficiency, control, and performance, but if we are really honest, this world wears us out. God never made us to be autonomous or self-sufficient. He made us in His image, not as His equal. The One who is all-powerful and all-knowing intentionally made us dependent. That’s not punishment. It’s an invitation. By the humility of trust, not the hubris of trying, we are to reflect Him. He is the source and the strength of our lives. This may sound incredible, but weakness is not a sin; it is a gift. Paul reminds us that in our weakness, Christ’s strength is perfected. When we wear masks of control and capability, we deny the very power we need most, His. Now we find that faith is not only measured in the things we can’t handle, but even in the things we think we can. Our God is faithful and He is our strength, not just when we are weak, but because we are weak.

“And He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’…” 2Corinthians 12:9
