Devotional from Pastor Tim
We’ve all seen the fast-talking infomercials that pitch products guaranteed to change our lives. They prove too good to be true, as they overpromise and underdeliver, but at least you can get a second one for free, just pay for shipping and handling.
Sadly, because of the religious infomercials out there selling the idea that God’s blessings are based on our performance, many people think the real gospel sounds too good to be true.
The gospel never needs to be sold, just told, because the truth is not imagined good news—it is unimaginable good news! Forgiveness and righteousness are not rewards for what you do, but gifts based on what God has done.
Gone are the days of frustration and exhaustion, of trying to get forgiven and become righteous by what we do. Because of His grace, forgiveness and righteousness are not things you have to work for, but gifts you simply receive.
It is God’s gift of forgiveness that leads to repentance, and His gift of righteousness that empowers a new way of living. The gospel of grace is not a high-pressure sales pitch, but an invitation to receive and rest in the finished work of Christ, where not one ounce of fear, guilt, or shame is used to motivate you, but only the authentic, transforming, and unconditional love of God.
Don’t buy what religion is selling, but freely receive what God has done through Christ, and enjoy life to the fullest!
Ephesians 2:8 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
