Stop Beating Yourself Up
Do you ever feel like you’re not doing enough? Not being a good enough spouse, parent, student, or Christian? That nagging voice of self-condemnation can feel overwhelming, whispering that you should try harder, be better, and do more. Condemnation is the result of shame, and shame is the idea that something is irreparably wrong with us. But none of that is from God.
The enemy accuses us, and religion demands from us, but God never condemns us. Romans 8:1 tells us, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” If you are in Christ, God is not speaking to you with shame or condemnation—He is speaking words of love, acceptance, and grace. Even those condemning thoughts that feel like your own are not from you because in Christ, you have been made new.
God’s truth sets you free, and He loves you, delights in you, and is pleased with who He made you to be. When condemnation knocks, refuse to answer. Instead, take every thought captive and choose to believe the truth—there is no condemnation in Christ, because you are a new creation, made righteous, loved, accepted, and His delight!
Instead of agreeing with condemnation, we can reject it and replace it with God’s truth. When those negative thoughts arise, take them captive, make them obedient to Jesus, and rest in the freedom of knowing you are fully His.
Romans 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 10:5 We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
