Being led by the Spirit can sound mysterious, as though only a few really spiritual people experience it. We may imagine dramatic feelings, unmistakable signs, or a voice telling us exactly what to do.
But the Bible gives us a much more practical picture.
If you are in Christ, the Holy Spirit lives in you, and He is leading you. That doesn't mean you'll always make perfect decisions or never struggle. But it does mean you are never navigating life alone. God is your Father, and through His Spirit, He is continually leading His children.
How does He lead? He leads you into the truth of the gospel. He reminds you that He is good, faithful, for you, and will never leave you. He also reminds you that you are loved, accepted, forgiven, and righteous. He points you to Jesus instead of condemnation and teaches you to live from the new heart He has given you.
Being led by the Spirit is not merely a feeling that comes over you. It's learning to take God at His Word and live like it's true.
Whether you feel it or not, the Spirit lives in you. Whether you recognize it or not, He is present and at work. And none of this is based on your emotions; it's grounded in His promise.
So if you're wondering whether you're being led by the Spirit, start here: believe what God says about Himself and what He says about you in Christ. The Spirit who lives in you is faithfully leading you into the reality of who Jesus is and who you now are in Him.
That's not mystical. That's wonderfully practical. And that's good news.
A Prayer for This Week
Father, thank You for giving me Your Spirit through Jesus. Thank You that I am never alone or spiritually orphaned. Thank You that Your Spirit lives in me, reminding me of what is true and leading me into the reality of Your grace. Teach me to trust Your leading by taking You at Your Word and resting in Your presence today. Amen.
For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14
