Who Are You?

Identity

Devotional from Pastor Tim

The world tells us our identity is fluid, tied to feelings, behavior, or the ever-shifting opinions of others. But if we base who we are on what we do or how we feel, we’ll never experience peace. The gospel offers a better foundation: identity by birth, not by behavior.

Just as your physical birth determines your physical identity, your spiritual birth determines your spiritual identity. Scripture says that we were all born in Adam—spiritually dead and separated from God. But when you placed your faith in Christ, something miraculous happened. You were born again. That new birth gave you a brand-new identity: not as a sinner trying to be holy, but as a saint who is holy in Christ.

This is the truth: You are not who you feel like on a bad day. You are not what others say when they misunderstand or criticize you. You are not defined by past mistakes or even present struggles. You are a new creation, joined to Jesus, alive in Him, and forever secure. Forever!

Don’t fall for the same lie the world believes—that your actions and feelings determine your worth. The truth is found in the One who gave you new birth. Because of Jesus, you are righteous, accepted, and complete. Your identity is anchored in Him, not in the ebb and flow of your performance and emotions.

Let your heart settle into that reality today. Even when your feelings falter, the truth doesn’t change. You are His.

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians5:17
