Valentine’s Day stirs up thoughts about love—whether it’s celebrated with joy or longing, it can remind us of what we have or what we would like to have. We all want to be loved, not because of a certain day, but because it is the deepest desire of our heart. The Bible tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8). Interesting…His love isn’t something He merely possesses—it’s who He is.
The world often distorts love, reducing it to fleeting emotions or sentimental gestures. But God’s love is so much more. It’s grounded in commitment and action, not feelings. God demonstrated this through Jesus. His love moved Him to sacrifice everything for us: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). This self-giving, self-sacrificing love isn’t conditioned on your performance, circumstances, or feelings—it’s the very nature of God.
This Valentine’s Day, whether you find yourself surrounded by love or longing for it, know this: you are loved. In Christ, God has proven the depth of His love: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). His love wasn’t given because we earned it or deserved it—it was given freely, rooted in His desire to restore, redeem, and reconcile us. You are loved whether you’re rejoicing or mourning, thriving or struggling, married or single. You are loved if you’re in the waiting. You are loved if life isn’t what you imagined. You are loved because of who God is, and His love never fails.
Take a moment today to reflect on this eternal truth: God loves you. Not just in word, but in action. He gave His Son so that you could know the fullness of His love and rest securely in it today and forever.
Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
