A Devotional from Pastor Tim Chalas
We all have thoughts—some beautiful, some brutal. They come and go. But what if your thoughts don’t always tell the truth? What if those anxious, condemning, or fear-filled messages aren’t for you—or from God?
As believers, we must remember: not every thought that enters our mind is worthy of our attention. In fact, 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to “take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” That means some thoughts need to be stopped in their tracks, questioned, and replaced with truth.
God’s thoughts toward you are never accusatory. They’re filled with love, grace, truth, and peace. Jeremiah 29:11 says God’s thoughts are filled with hope, and His intentions are to prosper and not to harm. While originally spoken to Israel, it reveals the heart of God—a heart that doesn’t shame or condemn His children but seeks their good.
You are not the sum of your random, racing thoughts. You are a new creation, united with Christ and given the mind of Christ. So when your mind feels like a battleground, remember this: thoughts come and go, but the battle is won in believing God’s thoughts of and for you. His thoughts are truth and that is your freedom!
"When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul." — Psalm 94:19
