Devotional from Pastor Tim Chalas
In a culture that celebrates “your truth” and “my truth,” the idea of absolute truth is often seen as offensive or outdated. But Scripture shows us that truth is not relative or situational — it is revealed and unchanging. And even more, truth is not a concept. It’s a Person.
Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). He didn’t claim to know the truth — He claimed to be the truth. That means truth isn’t found in opinions, feelings, or consensus. It’s found in Christ. And knowing Him sets us free.
“Live your truth” might sound empowering, but it’s ultimately enslaving. Relativism only leads to confusion and chaos as people make immutable principles out of their subjective preferences. Simply put, when someone defines truth for themselves, bondage follows. But when Jesus defines truth, freedom begins.
Truth doesn’t restrict us — it restores us. It doesn’t shame us — it secures us. In a world of shifting standards, Jesus remains the unchanging reality that grounds our identity and hope. You aren’t to define truth for yourself; you are to find it in the One who made you.
John 8:32 …and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.
