When Life is Hard

Despair

Devotional from Pastor Tim

Many believe that trusting God should produce a trouble-free life. But Scripture paints a much different and far more hopeful picture. Jesus affirmed that trouble is unavoidable in this world. “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).

Hard seasons, unexpected loss, fear, and even our own missteps remain part of the human experience. Yet none of these diminish the goodness of God or the security of those who belong to Him.

Grace reminds us that God’s goodness is not proven by improved circumstances but by the finished work of Jesus. He didn’t rescue us out of the world’s difficulty; He redeemed us so that we could walk through it with His life in us. Trust, then, is not our way of earning better outcomes but of resting in the One who already holds us secure. When our circumstances refuse to change, His presence does not waver. Even when our pain is self-inflicted, His compassion does not retreat. You are His beloved child, joined to Christ, and nothing you face will ever separate you from His love.

Freedom is not found in the absence of hardship but in knowing that hardship cannot undo what Jesus has done. Grace doesn’t promise an easier life; it promises an anchored heart. So, whatever today holds, you walk into it with the Overcomer living in you.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
