You Don’t Need More Faith

Faith

Devotional from Pastor Tim Chalas

Faith often feels like something we need to increase, as though God is waiting for us to hit a certain “faith level” before He acts on our behalf. But Scripture paints a very different picture. Jesus never emphasized quantity. In fact, He spoke of faith as small as a mustard seed being enough to move mountains. Why? Because faith is not the hero — Jesus is.

Faith is not a spiritual muscle to flex or a commodity to stockpile. It is a response, a trust in the One who is already faithful. When the crowd asked Jesus, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” He answered simply, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” (John 6:29) That’s it. No striving, no earning, not just for a few, or the elite — just believing Him.

Faith isn’t the cause of God’s goodness in your life; it’s the effect. It’s not our faith that makes God powerful — He already is. What matters is the object of our faith. Even a small glimmer of trust in a great Savior is enough to anchor you in His promises. He doesn’t ask for more faith; He invites us to place any that we have in Him.

So today, let your heart rest. You're not earning God’s goodness by having enough faith. You’re simply responding to what’s already true in Jesus. Trust Him. Let your faith be what it was always meant to be — a response to His goodness, not a requirement for it.

Matthew 17:20 …for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.
